How Doginals began: early 2023 inscriptions, experimental collections, high technical barriers, and an environment that favored short-term extraction over durable building.
The Doginals protocol enabled inscriptions on Dogecoin in early 2023. First inscriptions appeared in February 2023. Early activity consisted of experimental collections and the first DRC-20 style tokens.
Most early projects received little lasting attention and demonstrated minimal long-term continuity. Technical barriers remained high. Marketplace standards did not exist. The environment favored short-term extraction over durable building.
Most other named collections and teams of the 2023–2025 period followed similar trajectories: short bursts of activity, internal conflict, association with low-integrity actors, or quiet disappearance. The ecosystem largely cannibalized itself through drama, extraction, and abandonment rather than sustained collaborative building.
