Protocol Origins (2023)
How Doginals began: early 2023 inscriptions, experimental collections, limited infrastructure, and the first tooling wave.
In early 2023 the Doginals protocol enabled inscription of data and images directly onto the Dogecoin blockchain. First inscriptions are recorded in February 2023. Early activity consisted of experimental collections, text inscriptions, and the first drc-20 style tokens.
Infrastructure was limited. Full-chain indexing, purpose-built wallets, and automated marketplaces were not yet widely available. Participation required relatively high technical familiarity.
Several small collections launched. Among the earlier named collections was Mini Doges, which occupied an early inscription range.
Infrastructure providers emerged. Doge Labs developed early indexing solutions, a wallet, inscription tooling, and an automated marketplace. These tools reduced technical barriers and were used by a significant portion of early participants.
Marketplace activity was distributed across multiple platforms. Listing formats and indexing approaches were not standardized.
DHAP status note
Experimental phase. Fragmented tooling. High technical barrier.
